Anwar Jones

Anwar, correctly pronounced “uh n - w uhr,” is a Store Manager and Team Leader for Kay Jewelers in Chicago. His name means ‘the light’ and refers most specifically to a light which reveals.

As a child, Anwar had a rather normal childhood growing up in a nearby Chicago suburb. At a very young age he discovered a great interest in comic books. This is where his enthusiasm for reading began. He would find himself walking miles to the only comic book store in town just to keep himself in tune with the latest editions. Everyday he read a comic book not realizing that his childhood fetish would eventually steer him into the direction of discovering his God given talent.

Reading comics books led him to illustrating and writing his own. His drawings were great but his writing skills were phenomenal. It was during these early years of his life that he knew he had a gift for writing. Writing became his best friend. It accepted his adventurous, comical and honest character. It acted as an escape from his everyday obstacles which brought him a sense of comfort, peace and joy.  As Anwar blossomed into a teenager, unsurprisingly his interest in “teenage activities” grew.  And mor e than anything else, he loved to party. With partying came his love for girls, alcohol, and music. Music was by far was what he enjoyed most of all. He took pleasure in dancing, writing, singing, rapping and creating music.

At the age of 21, his life changed forever after accepting an invitation to attend the Indiana Avenue Pentecostal Church of God. Attending church services frequently, Anwar found himself falling out of love with his sins and falling in love with Jesus Christ. He hungered and thirsted after righteousness and he was filled. On February 26, 2010, Anwar was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. This was by far the wisest decision he’s ever made in life. His love for God has caused him to serve in many capacities in the church as an Assistant Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Bulletin Staff Member, Altar Worker, Drama Guild, Hospitality Committee, Illinois District Council Staff Member, and whatever his hands find to do as unto the Lord. He began witnessing God’s marvelous and wondrous works in his life and others around him and was so amazed at what he was experiencing that he couldn't dare keep it to himself.

His passion for writing was discovered as a sinner, but now it’s being used to glorify God as a saint. Performing poetry has brought him before great men and women throughout the state of Illinois. To name a few places he has ministered poetry to: The Illinois District Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Organization, The Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith.
